Last week, we published the 2017 SBAC results for West Contra Costa schools. While some of our schools are making meaningful progress, it’s clear that much work remains before all students are on track for success.
Our most vulnerable students, including those who are low income, English Learner, Special Education, and students of color, attend the schools with the lowest academic achievement. At schools like Stege, King, or Lincoln Elementary, fewer than 1 out of every 10 students is demonstrating grade-level proficiency in English and Math.
These statistics are daunting – but can and must be addressed.
At the foot of such enormous challenges, consider one principal’s unflinching and powerful response. In her stirring TED Talk, high school principal Linda Cliatt-Wayman urges us to do three things: first ask “So what? Now what?” then lead fearlessly and love hard. A must watch!
